Mentoring Matters
Client: City Fringe Partnership
Supported by: London Development Agency
Project Aims:
The Mentoring Matters programme was aimed at jewellers who graduated in Great Britain within the last five years, and who are now based in London. 20 jewellers were selected onto the programme and were matched a wide variety of mentors such as Alex Monroe, Lin Cheung and Theo Fennell, who were able to support them to develop their skills, confidence and business potential.
PHP designed the programme to connect 20 innovative jewellery designers with industry professionals to advise and guide them over one year (2008-09). Mentoring Matters created a support structure providing the jewellery designers with access to a sympathetic ear from a wide range of 'industry insiders'.
All the jewellers had a year of 1-1 support from mentors who are experienced and knowledgeable in their field. They also had the opportunity to showcase their work at a gala event held at he Design Council in London at the end of the programme.
We are thrilled that the mentors and mentees have built the Mentoring Matters programme into a successful, confident network of committed professional jewellers.
Project Outcomes:
Six of the designers were winners of the 2009 Coutts New Jewellers Awards. Other significant achievements from across the group of mentees have included:
2 international awards
1 industry award
3 innovation awards
1 Coutts Jewellery Week ambassador award
2 capital awards
